President's report
The Association operates through its teams. The following are highlights of Association activities:
Social
Reactivation of the Association (May 18, 2004 Meeting)
More than 90 residents have renewed or joined since May 2004
September Street Picnic - more than 100 participated.
Sent condolences and flowers to Mrs. Sawyer, Mrs. Sweeney and Mrs.
Jackson in memory of Gerard Sawyer, Howard Sweeney, and Dr. Jackson. We
also note the loss of David and Janis Mucka.
Green Team
Alerted Council Member in an effort to stop the removal of more trees on Shepherd Street and requested information regarding removal of trees in Crestwood
July issues meeting - Rock Creek Park specialist briefed Association members
October walking talk of the Point to inform the community about
invasive plants
November clean-up of invasive vines, in coordination with Rock Creek
Park
Rock Creek Park Partnership - At the November 16 meeting, the Association members who attended had the benefit of hearing directly from the DC police, a representative from Park Police and Rock Creek Superintendent Adrienne Coleman
Public Safety Team
Updated and distributed of the Crestwood Association directory to members
Hosted October 19 meeting to discuss Neighborhood Watch
Identified Block contacts for each block to develop a crime reduction
plan
Provided attendees of the Association November 16 meeting with
important DC phone numbers to report crimes
Participated at the November 18, 2004 4th District Police Partners in
Action Meeting and provided recommendations on steps that could be taken
to reduce crime
Notified DC regularly about missing street signs & reported to 727-1000
Raised awareness about "gang graffiti" on stop signs and bus stops
Beginning to track vacant property within Crestwood
Participated at Police Service Area 404 and US Attorney community prosecution meetings (including all day meeting in October)
Relaying crime data to our contacts for the List Serve and Crestwood-dc website
DC Matters (Issues Team)
Serving as Council Member Fenty's representative on the Taskforce to update the city's comprehensive plan. Association member Adrian Washington of Shepherd Street is another Task Force Member
The Association joined the Federation of Citizens Associations
Held meeting on November 16 to talk about remodeling in Crestwood and what residents need to know to get through the permit process. The meeting was hosted by the Butler family. Ethan Landis of Landis Construction provided a very helpful overview of the process.
Briefed Council Member, the ANC Commissioners, and others on issues of interest, including:
Crime - the surge in stolen autos, thefts, speeding cars, gun shots, grafitti, identity theft, littering and dumping
Criminal activity in Rock Creek Park
Invasive Vines in Rock Creek Park
Infrastructure issues - (sewage in water in Piney Branch Creek, crumbling roads, flying manhole covers)like needed road repairs
Zoning issues
Stadium - and potential impact on taxpayers
Metrorail - Red Line
Traffic Enforcement
Communications Team
Continued improvements to the Crestwood website and E-mail links and networkUpdating the bylaws and posting draft on the website by January 2005

Convening an action team to reach out to families with children Exploring possibility of working with Grace Lutheran Church for playground and possible day care - and the church has expressed willingness to work with us
