Crestwood Citizens Association (CCA) president Gale Black opened the meeting and presided at her home.
A representative from Councilman Fenty’s office spoke about various meetings to be held about tax bills and gave a reminder that DC Council proceedings can be viewed on Channel 13.
Crime Discussion: An officer from the Police Department discussed crime and safety concerns with attendees. Officer Hutchings said a suspect was in custody for two burglaries in the Crestwood neighborhood. There are an additional five officers assigned to our PSA. There was then discussion with the group about gang graffiti. No citizens present had noticed any gang activity except some graffiti. If you suspect gang graffiti or have other gang related questions, call the Gang Intel Unit at 202-576-8204.
Remember to call 911 for any emergency. If you have a non-emergency you may call 311 for the police or 211 for general questions. Crime statistics relevant to the Crestwood area (Patrol Service Area 404) are posted on the www.crestwood-dc.org website.
Doug Barker mentioned that there is an upcoming activity to help during a “clean-up day” in Rock Creek Park. He and the Green Team is also organizing a Neighborhood Garden tour in June. If you are interested, please contact Doug.
Concerns discussed: a derelict property on Quincy Street; dislike for the “No Right Turn on Red” sign at the corner of Shepherd and 16th; speeding cars on the 1700 block of Shepherd St.

Changes in the by-laws were discussed at length. The residents voted to accept all the proposed changes to the by-laws. After significant discussion on various propositions to change the Association’s boundaries, the residents present voted to expand the boundaries of the Crestwood Association to the north to make Varnum Street the northern boundary.
Please submit any nominations for the Crestwood Association Board of Directors to any member of the current Board. Annual elections will be held at the May meeting at Grace Lutheran Church on 16th Street.
The Crestwood Citizens Association continues to sign up for neighborhood activity teams, including Social, Public Safety, Green, Kids, Communications, Issues.
